There are three types of laser resurfacing skin procedures that are selected based on your skin’s needs. Some are performed for milder cases of skin damage, while others are more aggressive:
- Ablative Laser Treatments
Ablative lasers eliminate thin layers of skin similar to a deep chemical peel or dermabrasion with a precision that allows the laser technician to reduce damage to the skin. Ablative lasers are ideal for firming the skin, as well as removing wrinkles and acne scars. - Non-Ablative Laser Treatments
Non-ablative lasers don’t remove any skin — the light creates micro-damage to the skin cells to prompt natural skin healing. Non-ablative treatments are great for addressing fine lines and wrinkles on those who are willing to wait several months for strong results. - Fractional Laser Treatments
Fractional laser treatments are a combination of non-ablative and ablative that create small holes in the deep skin layers. The body’s automatic healing leads to tighter skin. We may use fractional lasers to treat fine lines, deep wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, and uneven pigmentation.
If you are scheduled for a deeper or more intense laser treatment, our medical team will suggest you use Versailles Medical Spa’s clinically proven Kurative cream for a few weeks before your laser procedure. The Kurative cream helps prep the skin for maximum results. Prior to the procedure, the medical provider will use a topical anesthetic cream to numb the treated area to make the procedure more comfortable. The provider will then use the hand-held device and perform laser glides over the skin, precisely targeting the needed areas for improvement. You will feel the heat from the laser followed by cold air from the system’s built-in cooling device. The laser works to destroy dead and damaged skin cells while also stimulating new collagen growth.
Following lighter laser treatments, a healing ointment is applied to the skin and you can return home for recovery. The treated skin may look pink, and you will experience some swelling and irritation. These symptoms subside in a few days, and the healing process lasts over a 5-7 day timeframe. If you undergo a deeper laser peel, your downtime may last longer. In some cases, irritation, swelling, and burning side effects may occur. The estimated downtime for laser skin resurfacing may last up to last 1-2 weeks. All patients need to limit their sun exposure after their laser treatment and use sun protection regularly. Regardless of the intensity of the peel, the skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel away. It’s crucial to avoid interfering with the healing process to prevent scarring and to protect your skin from environmental exposure. Once the peeling is finished, your skin should feel smoother while also looking clearer, younger, and rejuvenated.
A Fraxel Dual or a Fraxel Restore laser skin resurfacing treatment offers excellent results if you want a younger-looking complexion.
